I can’t think of a better palce in Oxford to find down home southern cooking than Ajax. This place offer’s epic southern dishes such as the deuce, a double stack of hamburger patties smothered with cheese and bacon accompanied by some of the best steak fries in the world. The also offer some of the south’s true home grown side items such as; home grown tomatoes and mayonnaise, butterbeans, hashbrown casserole and the best squash casserole made by oxfords truly homegrown sous chef Park Thompson. They also offer the best poboys such as; chicken sliced club with applewood smoked bacon, flaky pot roast and gravy, and signature shrimp. In addition to these fine adaptations of authentic southern items they also offer one of the finest southern plate lunch and vegetable combination plates with items like, green beans, chicken and dumplings, and matty’s moms meatloaf. Just a little secret… They are the home of the best bloody marry in town. They are open from 11:30am untill 10pm Monday-Saturday but the hours are often extended on gamedays. They are located on the Square between Rooster’s Blues Bar and the Lilly Pad.
